The image analysis portion of FishBC 3.0 provides you with the means to easily capture digital images through any TWAIN compatible device.  Most commonly a digital camera mounted on a microscope.  If you obtain your images from other methods you can easily open the image within FishBC.

If your image capture device does not provide you the means to change the sizes of your image upon capturing and you want to reduce or enlarge the size, FishBC allows you to set an auto image size.  You have the option to resize your image by percentage or by height/width upon capturing so you are constantly resizing your image every time you capture an image.

Measuring the annuli with FishBC 3.0 is completed very easily.  Simply click on the focus, click on all annuli then the edge.  The measurements are entered into the spreadsheet below.  There is also a note tool that allow you to draw text boxes on the image with any descriptive information you wish.

As mentioned in the FishBC 3.0 overview section, there will soon be other option available for the image analysis portion.  Some of the major addition in the patch include .JPG compatibility, a line trace tool, and a dynamic window layout.  For a more thorough discussion on the patch click here.

Originally FishBC 3.0 was only compatible with .BMP images.  While this was fully functional, the large size of .BMP images made it difficult to share the saved images.  There were also limitations to the physical size the image could be in order to measure the image without running out of RAM memory.  Therefore, we have been working to enable .JPG compatibility to overcome these issues.

Another issue that is sometimes encountered is the ability to measure with a straight line.  To aid in measuring in a straight line we have added the option of using a green trace line. The green trace line appears when you first click on the focus and will extend from the focus through where your mouse pointer is located and to the edge of the image. This allows you to see where your line will end up if you continue on that trajectory.  The remaining annuli are marked inline with the green trace line. Upon completing your measurements (right mouse click), the green trace line disappears. The trace line will be the same size as the measurement line. And it can be turned off in the same window where you resize your line.

Previously the image analysis form had a static layout that is the image viewing window and spreadsheet were locked to a set position. To permit a larger viewing area for your images you can now adjust the percentage of each area. To accomplish this, place your mouse cursor over the line that separates the image area and mouse cursor will become a north south arrow. Click and hold your left mouse button and drag it up or down. When you release the mouse button the layout will adjust to make the sheet larger or smaller and the image larger or smaller.
